I’ve never been into beauty and makeup as much as I am into fashion/clothing. I love going to a beauty store and test lipstick and blush shades, looking at rainbows of eyeshadows and stuff like that, but I never buy anything unless I need to replace any product. Before going through an in-depth chat about makeup, I want to show you my current beauty and makeup essentials for my ‘working girl’ makeup look…
I own one mascara, one liquid base, one black eyeliner… Well, I used to. Now I’m building a bigger makeup stash based on the recommendations of the only beauty vlogger (video-blogger. My eyes were bleeding until I found out what was that ‘v’ for) I follow, Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup. I’m taking it easy since I don’t follow many steps on my daily makeup routine, but I love trying new brands, shades and products so that’s a good excuse to introduce new concepts such as contouring.
1 | MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. This is the best face powder that I have used so far. Its texture is light when you apply it with a brush instead of the sponge pad (I hate sponge pads for makeup), it gives a nice layer of coverage. This one keeps my facial shine under control, especially in summer when I don’t like to use liquid foundation. Now I have my eye on setting powder just to try it when my winter makeup routine begins.
2 | Sleek eyeshadow palette ‘Au Naturel’. It works really good for no-makeup makeup looks as well as for any brown smokey eye. Fits perfectly with my everyday looks! I use all the matte shadows, but it also includes three glittery shades that I like to give a go for a night makeup look. Sleek is a low cost brand (this palette was around 12€), so don’t expect a great pigmentation… Anyway, I don’t want a dark and heavy look on my eyes so it works great for me!
3 | Black or brown eye pencil. What to say about these? Everybody should have one on their favorite shade. I currently own a couple of brown eyepencils from KIKO and a black from Bourjois. I like to apply it also in the upper water line of the eyes to fill in the eyelashes base.
4 | Eyelash curler. Your makeup won’t look the same if you forget about this tool. It makes the difference, trust me! Mascara performs better and it opens up your eyes. Besides, it doesn’t demand a big investment. Go for it!
5 | KIKO Luxurious Lashes Maxi Brush mascara. I have tried tons of mascaras, from low cost to high end brands (Lâncome’s was nice). For the last year I’ve been using KIKO’s, but next one will be Million Lashes by L’Óreal for sure! I prefer volume better than lenght, so that my eye looks darker.
6 | NARS Velvet Matte Lip pencil in ‘Mysterious Red’. Absolutely love it. Last Christmas I was on the hunt for Cruella shade (as the rest of the world, I guess), but it was out of stock everywhere so I opted for Mysterious Red. Highly recommended, it lasts breakfast, lunch and even afternoon snack!
7 | Carmex lip balm. I’m addicted to this tiny pot! I always carry it on my bag, especially on monday to friday. The constant changes of temperature (street-office-metro) dry my lips so I always need to keep them moisturized. Plus… who could resist to its spicy and fresh feeling on the lips?
8 | Moroccanoil treatment original. Smells good, feels good. This is the best serum for my dyed hair since it gives a good moisture and leaves a beautiful shine on it.
9 | Avène Cleanance lotion. As I said above, my face skin is mixt-to-oily. After washing my face in the morning, I apply this serum as the first step in my moisturizing routine. It helps me keeping away the shiny bits on my face during all the day long.
10/ Thermal water. I’ve heard this product being recommended by almost everybody in the beauty world. My skin has felt the difference since I spray it on my face every single morning. You need to get one of this NOW! I re-discovered its benefits when I found at home the bottle you see in the picture. It’s from Deliplus, a low cost brand, but I’m looking forward to get the “official” from Avène when I empty out this one.
So… these are my top 10 essentials in my daily routine for going to work. What are yours? Did you already know any of the products listed above or do you have any recommendation for me? I’ll keep you posted on my beauty and makeup discoveries on building a bigger makeup stash… wish me luck!
Love to hear from you!
